Nine Going on Nineteen

My little nine-year-old Marina is looking very old lately. They grow up so fast!

Marina: What’s green and round and goes up and down? A watermelon in an elevator.

Marina: I have a boyfriend, but there are two other boys who like me.

Me: Oh really, Miss Popular?

Marina: Yes.

Me: Miss Popular, you have chocolate on your face.

Marina: I have to write a song about an animal.

Me: Okay, what animal are you going to write about?

Marina: I don’t know.

Me: Well, I don’t know either.

Marina: But you’re the teacher!

Me: But you’re the student, and it’s your homework!
